Showcasing India’s might and innovation in the drone technology space, IG Drones played a crucial role in the recently concluded Operation Sindoor.
Originally conceived in 2014 as part of a college project to solve sedimentation issues in Odisha’s Hirakud reservoir, IG Drones evolved from a student rocket launch initiative into a full-fledged drone technology company.
Founded by Bodhisattwa Sanghapriya, Om Prakash, Ashish Kumar Jena, and Shuvam Dash, the startup officially took shape in 2018, with nothing more than a small home office and a big vision.
Fast forward to 2024, and the company’s drones are flying high, literally and figuratively, supporting the Indian Army with domestically built VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) and FPV (First Person View) drones.
The systems were delivered under a “significant contract” signed earlier this year, all within a tight one-month deadline.
These drones are specially designed for high-altitude tactical operations, capable of carrying out real-time surveillance, precision mapping, and reliable intelligence gathering, all critical factors in Operation Sindoor’s success.
According to IG Drones’ SVP of R&D, RC Padhi, the mission affirmed the value of India’s homegrown drone capabilities in modern warfare.
The startup now competes with bigger, publicly listed players like IdeaForge and DroneAcharya, proving that agility, innovation, and deep tech understanding can outmatch size.
IG Drones is poised for rapid expansion with a growing order book and ongoing discussions with various government agencies.
As India accelerates its adoption of drone technology, IG Drones stands out as a shining example of innovation, resilience, and strategic collaboration, reinforcing the country’s capability to develop world-class defense solutions from within.
