Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup’s electric mobility arm, Green SM, has officially entered the Indian market with the launch of its all-electric ride-hailing service, Green SM Limo, in Delhi NCR. The move marks the company’s first expansion into South Asia and signals its ambition to become a major player in one of the world’s fastest-growing mobility markets.
The company has begun operations with a fleet of around 1,000 electric vehicles and plans to scale up to 10,000 EVs across Delhi NCR in the coming months, significantly expanding its presence in the region and intensifying competition in India’s ride-hailing sector.
A Bold Bet on India's EV Future
Speaking at the launch event, Haryana Industries and Commerce Minister Rao Narbir Singh said Green SM had already outlined its growth plans to the state government.
“The Green SM team informed the Haryana Chief Minister and the Haryana government that they intend to expand to 10,000 vehicles in the near future,” Singh said.
The expansion comes at a time when India is witnessing rapid adoption of electric vehicles, supported by government initiatives, improving charging infrastructure, and growing consumer demand for cleaner transportation options. Delhi NCR, one of India’s largest urban mobility markets, is increasingly becoming a testing ground for large-scale EV deployment.
Taking on India's Mobility Giants
Green SM’s entry introduces a new challenger to an industry currently dominated by players such as Uber, Ola, and Rapido. What makes the launch particularly notable is the company’s commitment to operating an entirely electric fleet from day one.
Following the exit of EV-focused operator BluSmart, Green SM now has an opportunity to capture demand from commuters seeking sustainable and premium ride-hailing alternatives. The company is positioning itself as a technology-driven mobility platform focused on reliability, comfort, and environmentally responsible transportation.
From Southeast Asia to India
Before entering India, Green SM had already established operations in Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, and the Philippines. According to the company, it has built a network of more than 150,000 driver partners across its markets and has emerged as one of the fastest-growing electric mobility platforms in Southeast Asia.
India now becomes a critical market in Green SM’s international expansion strategy, given the country’s scale, urbanization trends, and growing focus on clean mobility solutions.
More Than Just a Ride-Hailing Launch
For Vingroup and its EV subsidiary VinFast, the launch represents more than simply entering the cab business. A large-scale electric taxi network can serve as a powerful showcase for EV technology, helping familiarize Indian consumers with electric mobility while accelerating the adoption of sustainable transportation.
Industry observers see fleet-led EV deployment as one of the fastest ways to increase EV visibility, create charging ecosystem demand, and build consumer confidence in electric vehicles.
Affordable Launch Pricing
Green SM has introduced its services at an introductory fare of ₹8 per kilometre. To encourage early adoption, the company is offering a promotional discount of 50%, up to ₹250 per ride, on bookings made between June 5 and June 11.
The service is currently available across key parts of the National Capital Region, with plans to expand coverage in phases based on demand and operational readiness.
The Bigger Picture
Green SM’s India launch reflects a broader trend reshaping urban transportation globally: the shift toward electric, sustainable, and technology-enabled mobility. With ambitious fleet expansion plans, strong backing from Vingroup, and a proven operating model across multiple countries, the company is making a significant long-term bet on India’s EV future.
If successfully executed, Green SM’s entry could not only reshape competition in the ride-hailing industry but also accelerate the country’s transition toward cleaner and more sustainable urban transportation.
